Music Lessons

Piano

Piano instruction is grounded in classical training with flexibility in styles such as pop and contemporary music. Shaped by years of performance and teaching experience, this helps students build strong technique while also developing creativity and musical expression.

Options include Royal Conservatory preparation, repertoire building, improvisation, and accompaniment skills—learning to play with confidence both on and off the page.

Guitar

Guitar lessons cover acoustic fingerpicking, classical technique, rock, and blues. Students learn to read music, tablature and chords, but also how to learn songs by ear and develop improvisational skills.

The focus is on becoming a well-rounded player who can confidently play existing music and begin creating their own.

Vocal

Voice lessons focus on healthy and efficient vocal production, helping students understand the mechanics of singing through breath control, tone production, and expressive performance.

Repertoire is chosen based on student goals and may include classical, musical theatre, folk, and pop styles. The focus is always on vocal health and building confidence.

Recital

At the end of each year I host a student recital. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their music in a supportive, encouraging environment and experience what it feels like to perform for an audience.

The recital gives students something meaningful to work toward throughout the year, especially for those not participating in festivals or formal exams. It helps build confidence, stage presence, and a real sense of accomplishment.

This is a free event, and family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate the progress and achievements of each performer.

Exams

For students who are interested, I offer preparation for Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) examinations in piano, voice, and theory.

Exam preparation is typically planned around the spring session, which often aligns with the end of the school year in June. However, other exam sessions are available throughout the year, and preparation can be tailored to suit each student’s goals and timeline.

Festivals

Students may also choose to participate in local music festivals such as the Brockville Music Festival and Kiwanis Music Festival. These events provide the opportunity to perform for larger, unfamiliar audiences and receive professional adjudication. This feedback helps guide further development while encouraging growth through real-world performance experience.
